BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme: World's Fastest Car Arrives in Australia

BYD's Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric hypercar is coming to Australia—the world's fastest production car. With a 496 km/h top speed and 3,000+ hp, only 30 will be made. Get the details.

BYD is sending just a single unit of its electric Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar to Australia. Australian outlets CarExpert and WhichCar report that the buyer is Nick Politis, chairman of the Sydney Roosters and a director of Eagers Automotive, Australia’s largest dealer group and a BYD partner.

The U9 Xtreme is set to be exceptionally rare even among hypercars, with global production limited to 30 units. Sources indicate the car is expected to arrive in Sydney in early 2027, and part of its planned use will be to promote BYD in the Australian market.

Under the skin, the U9 Xtreme relies on a quad-motor electric powertrain. Combined output exceeds 3,000 metric horsepower, and the system runs on a 1200-volt architecture. BYD quotes an 80 kWh Blade LFP battery pack and a driving range of up to 450 km on the Chinese test cycle.

The headline figure, however, is a top speed of 496.22 km/h. That number was clocked on September 14, 2025, at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, allowing BYD to call the U9 Xtreme the world’s fastest production car.
