GM EVs Languish on Used Market as Hybrids, Teslas Thrive

iSeeCars analysis reveals used hybrids and Teslas sell fast, but GM EVs like Sierra EV sit for over 100 days. Buyers prefer fuel savings over full electric.

A new iSeeCars analysis based on 6.7 million transactions reveals a growing divide in the used green vehicle market. Hybrids and Teslas are selling steadily, but many EVs from traditional automakers are losing their appeal among used-car buyers.

Among the slowest-selling models are the GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and GMC Hummer EV. The average used vehicle across the market takes 58.8 days to sell, but some GM EVs have been sitting on lots for over 100 days. The Sierra EV is the most extreme case, with an average time on the market exceeding 160 days.

Karl Brauer, executive analyst at iSeeCars, noted that demand for used cars has softened over the past year, with prices declining and sales slowing. Yet Tesla models and mainstream hybrids are holding up better than the rest.

Pricing data confirms the trend. In the first quarter of 2026, non-Tesla used EVs dropped 10.3 percent year-over-year. Hybrids lost only 1.4 percent, gasoline-powered cars fell 2.8 percent, and Tesla nearly retained its value.

Adding to the pressure on the pre-owned market, dealers are now offering heavy discounts on new GM EVs. The report cites discounts of up to $12,500 off MSRP. When a new Silverado EV or Blazer EV can be purchased with an aggressive markdown, a used one needs to be considerably cheaper, or buyers will simply opt for a new vehicle.

Hybrids, by contrast, are faring much better. According to iSeeCars, their share of the used-car market jumped 41.8 percent year-over-year. The appeal is clear: buyers get fuel savings without being tied to charging infrastructure, a factor that currently outweighs the allure of going fully electric.

For those deliberately shopping for a used EV, weak demand can be an opportunity. Dealers stuck with slow-selling Blazer EVs, Hummer EVs, or Sierra EVs will be more inclined to negotiate. But the data suggests that in today's used market, buyers are voting not for the flashiest electric vehicle but for predictable residual values and fewer everyday compromises.
