Porsche ramps up production of gasoline Macan ahead of 2026 phase-out

Porsche is increasing production of the first-generation gasoline Macan to stockpile vehicles before the model ends in summer 2026, ensuring continued sales into 2027, especially in the US market.

Porsche is ramping up production of the first-generation Macan with internal combustion engines as it prepares to halt production in summer 2026. The move is meant to stockpile vehicles for continued sales after the model is phased out. According to Porsche's management, the Leipzig plant is running at full capacity given component availability. These reserves should allow the gasoline Macan to remain on sale in some markets until 2027.

Despite being roughly 12 years old, demand for the model is still strong, particularly in the United States. Porsche is focusing on the US market because interest in the electric Macan has been lower than anticipated. The loss of a $7,500 federal EV subsidy is another factor working against the electric version. In the first quarter of 2026, the gasoline Macan outsold the electric one by 10,130 units to 8,079. However, the gasoline model has not been sold in EU countries since 2024 because it does not meet cybersecurity requirements.

Porsche's next gasoline crossover, positioned below the Cayenne, is not expected until 2028. It will be co-developed with Audi but will carry unique Porsche characteristics.
