ADAC 2025 Breakdown: Toyota and Hyundai Reliability Concerns

ADAC's 2025 breakdown statistics reveal Toyota Yaris, Corolla, C-HR, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 with lower reliability due to battery and ICCU issues. Overall vehicle reliability improves, EVs break down less.

ADAC, the German automobile club, has released its 2025 breakdown statistics, revealing that some Toyota and Hyundai models landed unexpectedly low in the rankings. Models flagged as less reliable include the Toyota Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla, and C-HR, along with the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Toyota's issues stem primarily from 12-volt battery problems, especially in hybrid versions. Overall, starter batteries accounted for 45.4% of all breakdowns in Germany. For Hyundai, the trouble lies with the ICCU module, which manages charging and low-voltage power supply.

That said, ADAC highlights a positive trend. Vehicle reliability has improved over the past decade: the breakdown rate for five-year-old cars fell from 3.6% to 2.1%, and for ten-year-old cars from 6.5% to 3.1%. Notably, electric vehicles break down less often than those with internal combustion engines. Among five-year-old EVs, the failure rate is about 40% lower.

So, despite some localized issues, the overall market is improving. The most economical cars and modern electric models are gradually proving more reliable than traditional ones.
