GM recalls 2019–2020 Chevrolet Silverado 4500–6500 for brake wiring risk
GM recalls 2019–2020 Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 over brake wiring harnesses lacking protective tape. Dealers will replace harnesses on 891 trucks.
General Motors has announced a new service recall for heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado 4500, 5500, and 6500 trucks built in 2019–2020. A follow-up inspection uncovered an issue that wasn’t resolved during the previous campaign: on some vehicles, the brake-system wiring harnesses were found without protective insulating tape.
This oversight can lead to chafing or damage of wires critical to brake operation, according to Tarantas.News. Under load, that flaw raises the risk of a brake system failure and, consequently, dangerous situations on the road. GM emphasized the defect is potentially hazardous, so the recall was launched without delay. For hard-working trucks, a seemingly minor protection miss can snowball into something far more serious, making swift action the only sensible move.
As part of the campaign, dealers will replace the susceptible harnesses with new ones that have a factory-applied protective tape layer. Once the work is complete, brake performance should be restored to its standard specification. The fix is straightforward, which is exactly what owners need to get their vehicles back to duty.
A total of 891 vehicles are affected. Each Silverado Heavy Duty owner will receive a notice from GM—by mail or through Chevrolet’s official electronic notification system. The company advises against operating the truck until the defect is corrected, especially when hauling or in commercial use, and that caution sounds more than reasonable given these trucks’ typical workload.
