Mazda 6e EV confirmed for Australia with sub-$55k target and 500+ km range
Mazda's first 6e electric sedan is coming to Australia mid-year, targeting under $55k. 78-kWh LFP, 190 kW RWD and 500+ km range to rival Model 3 and BYD Seal.
Mazda’s first 6e‑badged electric sedan is due to reach Australian showrooms by the middle of next year.
Early guidance puts the Mazda 6e under $55,000 before on-road costs; if that holds, the sticker could undercut the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive ($54,990) and even the BYD Seal Premium ($52,990). In other words, Mazda is aiming straight at the heart of the value-focused mid-size EV segment.
The sedan first appeared in China in 2024 as the EZ‑6, and was later announced for Europe and the UK, a rollout that naturally opens the door to Australia.
According to preliminary specifications shared by Mazda Australia’s head of product strategy, Daniel Wakelam, local versions of the Mazda 6e will use a 78‑kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a single 190‑kW motor driving the rear wheels. The claimed WLTP range exceeds 500 km. The package reads as pragmatic and well-judged, prioritizing range and rear-drive balance over headline-chasing numbers.
