Chery to develop compact electric vehicle for European market in France
Chinese automaker Chery is creating a compact urban electric vehicle from scratch for Europe, focusing on design for narrow city streets and local preferences.
Chinese automaker Chery is planning to develop a compact urban electric vehicle specifically for the European market. The project will be implemented in France, where the company intends to open a research center in Paris.
According to Chery representatives, the new model will not be an adaptation of existing Chinese vehicles but will be created from scratch with European buyer preferences in mind. The main focus is on compact dimensions and a design suitable for narrow city streets.
France has been chosen as a key market for such vehicles. The company emphasizes that for success, it's crucial to account for local tastes and habits, which is why development is being conducted directly in Europe.
Chery is already present in the European market: the Omoda and Jaecoo brands were recently launched in France, and assembly of Tiggo crossovers has been established in Spain at a former Nissan plant under the Ebro brand. Within three years, the manufacturer plans to increase production volume in Spain to 200,000 vehicles per year. This new project could strengthen the brand's position in the urban electric car segment, which has traditionally been popular in Europe.
