Peugeot 208: gas and electric models to coexist in 2027
Peugeot confirms the 208 will offer both combustion engine and electric versions in 2027, with features like steer-by-wire, catering to diverse customer preferences.
Peugeot plans to keep the current combustion engine version of its 208 model on the market, even as it prepares a fully electric version. This was confirmed by brand chief Alain Favey.
The new electric Peugeot 208 is set to launch in 2027. It will feature a steer-by-wire system and a rectangular steering wheel, though buyers will also have the option of a traditional round wheel.
Meanwhile, the existing gasoline-powered version will remain on sale alongside the electric car. According to Favey, this decision responds to demand from some customers who prefer proven, more affordable vehicles without complex technologies.
This reflects a flexible strategy, allowing customers to choose what best fits their needs—a classic internal combustion engine model or a modern electric variant. Peugeot emphasizes that offering both formats will help it reach a broader audience and sustain demand across different market segments.
