Bentley's first electric SUV coming in 2027 with cautious market entry

Bentley announces its debut electric vehicle, a compact SUV launching in 2027, priced similarly to the Bentayga. Learn about its features, market strategy, and the brand's electrification timeline.

Bentley is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle — a compact SUV set to debut in 2027. According to company CEO Mike Rocco, the new model will be priced similarly to the current flagship Bentayga, which starts at around €217,500 in Europe.

This new vehicle marks the brand's initial step into the electric car segment and will be built on Volkswagen's PPE platform, which is also used for the Porsche Cayenne Electric. Bentley is banking on a proven formula: appropriate pricing, strong residual values, and realistic sales volumes.

Interest in the model is already confirmed by market research, with surveys in the United States showing about 80% of participants expressing willingness to purchase an electric SUV. However, the company is mindful of risks, citing the example of the Rolls-Royce Spectre, where demand declined after initial excitement.

Bentley has also acknowledged that buyer concerns about range and charging infrastructure remain a limiting factor. As a result, the brand isn't rushing toward full electrification. The previously announced transition to electric by 2030 has been pushed back to 2035, and the upcoming SUV will remain the only electric model in the lineup for now. This approach represents Bentley's cautious yet strategic entry into the electric vehicle niche.
