Germany is projected to have an electric vehicle fleet of 8 million units by 2030, alongside approximately 2.4 million plug-in hybrids. These figures come from Now GmbH, based on consultations with automakers representing over 80% of the passenger car market.
According to the forecast, annual sales of electric vehicles are expected to grow by an average of 24% between 2026 and 2030. By the end of the decade, fully electric models could account for around 70% of all electrified vehicle sales.
Simultaneously, the model lineup is set to expand, with the number of available electric cars increasing by roughly 40%. Manufacturers are also working to boost battery capacity and reduce charging times. In more premium segments, capacity gains could reach up to 30%.
Technological advancements include the introduction of fast charging at 150 kW or higher and the spread of bidirectional charging. These solutions will gradually make their way into compact models as well.
This data is being used to plan charging infrastructure and assess demand. As new 2026 models arrive, the German electric vehicle market continues its shift toward the mass segment.
