BMW and MINI introduce easy Plug & Charge for public EV stations
BMW and MINI now offer Plug & Charge technology for public DC charging in Germany and Austria, allowing drivers to charge without a contract using just a credit card, enhancing convenience for all EV users.
The BMW Group is making public charging for its electric vehicles even more straightforward, setting a new standard for convenience and accessibility.
In Germany, customers can now charge their all-electric BMW or MINI vehicles at public DC charging stations using Plug & Charge technology—without needing a prior charging contract.
This works with a credit card registered to BMW or MINI. Once the driver logs in using their customer ID in the vehicle, the system automatically authenticates at the charging station when plugged in, and charging begins right away.
That means no extra app, charging card, or station instructions are necessary. The new feature can be set up in just a few steps via the Plug & Charge menu in the myBMW or MINI app.
The offering is available for all BMW and MINI vehicles equipped with Plug & Charge. Notably, this marks the first time Plug & Charge has been offered to customers without a charging contract, including tourists, corporate vehicle drivers, and those temporarily accessing their car via a BMW or MINI account.
The service launches in partnership with Mer Germany and will be accessible at over 1,400 charging stations in Germany and Austria, thanks to Hubject’s Plug&Charge ecosystem and a streamlined payment process. Additional charging operators and markets are set to join the project gradually through 2026.
