Tesla teases Colombia entry: Superchargers first, then sales

Tesla's social post suggests a Colombia launch after Chile, with Supercharger rollout likely. What it means for the EV market and rivals BYD and Zeekr.

Tesla has stoked interest in a possible launch in Colombia by posting an image with the country’s outline on social media. The post appeared on the official Tesla North America page, which created some confusion—there is still no South America–focused account, even though sales have already started in Chile.

If the tease becomes an announcement, Colombia would be Tesla’s second market in the region. It would also be a logical next step: a year ago the brand rolled out a Supercharger network in Chile and opened its first showroom there. With that foothold established, neighboring Colombia looks like the natural follow-up, where the electric-vehicle market is only beginning to form.

The country sees about 200,000 new cars sold annually, yet EVs still claim a small share due to limited charging infrastructure. Tesla traditionally builds out its charging network before opening sales, a playbook that could lower the barrier for adoption.

On arrival, Tesla would face Chinese brands BYD and Zeekr, already present in Colombia and pushing affordable models. Even if Tesla’s cars prove pricey for many local buyers, the badge and the tech are likely to draw attention—and could nudge South America’s EV market along.
