Proton X70 Sport Edition: a limited-run crossover with exclusive design

Discover the Proton X70 Sport Edition, a limited-run crossover with only 600 units. Features aggressive styling, black body kit with red accents, and exclusive interior touches.

Proton is keeping the buzz alive for its popular crossover with the introduction of a limited-run X70 Sport Edition. Only 600 units will be produced, with the official debut set for April 16. The model has already turned heads thanks to its more aggressive styling.

Based on the top-tier Premium trim, the focus here is squarely on design. The body is finished exclusively in Quartz Black, while a sporty body kit with red accents—including a front splitter, side skirts, and rear elements—emphasizes its character. The look is completed by 19-inch black alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin features distinctive touches like red stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and armrest, along with Sport Edition badging. A practical addition is a boot organizer, with the total package of enhancements valued at around $1,760.

Under the hood, however, things remain unchanged. The familiar 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivers 181 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. This signals that the model prioritizes visual impact and exclusivity over outright performance.

The price has yet to be announced but is expected to be slightly higher than the standard Premium version, which is typical for a limited edition. Such versions are a classic tool for maintaining interest in a model line.

Proton has opted to add emotion rather than alter the mechanics, addressing a common shortfall in mass-market crossovers. For buyers considering an affordable SUV, special editions like this can be a deciding factor, especially when production numbers are capped.
