Opel Astra GSE electric sport version unveiled with 281 hp

Opel is developing a sporty electric Astra GSE with 281 hp and front-wheel drive, aiming to boost its EV lineup and brand appeal in the competitive compact segment.

Opel is developing a new sporty version of its electric Astra, which will join the GSE lineup. This model will be the third member of the sub-brand after the Mokka and Corsa with electric powertrains.

Preliminary data suggests the Astra GSE will feature front-wheel drive with around 281 horsepower (207 kW) and an electronic differential lock. Technically, the newcomer will be similar to other Stellantis models, including the Cupra Born and Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce.

This development aims to strengthen Opel's position in the compact electric vehicle segment, where competition is intensifying. The company also seeks to shift brand perception by making it more emotional.

Previously, the Astra was available in a GSE version with a hybrid setup. The new modification will be fully electric and focused on higher performance. Opel is furthering this direction through participation in racing series, including an electric rally cup.
