Mitsubishi to produce hybrid vehicle in Philippines by 2028

Mitsubishi Motors joins the Philippines' EVIS program, planning hybrid production at Santa Rosa plant by 2028 to boost electrification in emerging markets.

Mitsubishi Motors has announced plans to join the Philippines' government-led EVIS electrification program. As part of this initiative, the company intends to start producing a new hybrid vehicle at its local plant. This project aligns with Mitsubishi's long-term strategy to expand its electrified model lineup in emerging markets.

Assembly of the new HEV model is scheduled to begin around mid-2028 at the Santa Rosa facility. To support this, Mitsubishi will upgrade production capabilities and invest in infrastructure development. Additional funding will also go toward strengthening the local supply chain. These efforts are expected to create new jobs and bolster the company's regional presence.

Mitsubishi is emphasizing hybrid technology as a transitional step in electrification. This approach is particularly relevant for developing markets, where electric vehicle infrastructure remains limited.

By participating in the EVIS program, the company can leverage government support measures. This will accelerate the adoption of new technologies and lower barriers to local manufacturing.

The Philippines remains a key market for Mitsubishi, where the brand has operated for decades. The plant has an annual capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles and plays a crucial role in the company's regional strategy.

Launching the hybrid model will strengthen Mitsubishi's position in the affordable electrified vehicle segment. It will also intensify competition with other Asian automakers.
