Jaguar goes all-electric with new GT and bold design shift

Jaguar shifts entirely to electric vehicles, launching the GT Type 00 with a 700 km range and low drag coefficient. Learn about the brand's premium EV strategy and future models.

Jaguar is undergoing a major transformation, shifting entirely to electric vehicles. According to brand managing director Rawdon Glover, the company is not considering hybrid or gasoline versions and is focused solely on electric cars.

The first model of this new era will be the four-door GT Type 00. This car features a low body, standing about 1.4 meters tall, and a redesigned battery architecture. Some batteries are placed at the front, helping to maintain proportions and ensure a high driving range without increasing the body height.

During development, engineers conducted around 15,000 tests, reducing the drag coefficient from 0.3 to 0.23. This improvement boosts efficiency and extends the range, which is claimed to be around 700 km.

Jaguar is already working on a second model, which will be part of the new lineup. All future vehicles from the brand will share similar proportions and a bold design while retaining individuality. However, the company does not plan to produce tall SUVs, leaving that segment to the Range Rover brand.

The decision for a complete reboot was driven by declining sales and an outdated business model. Jaguar aims to focus on the premium segment with more expensive and technologically advanced products. The new Jaguar cars are expected to form the foundation of the brand's refreshed market positioning.
