Toyota unveils ninth-gen Hilux with diesel, BEV and FCEV

Toyota premieres the ninth-generation Hilux with diesel, BEV and hydrogen FCEV. Electric model offers 59.2 kWh, AWD and 300+ km range; sales start in 2026.

Toyota has unveiled the all-new Hilux in Thailand, marking a world premiere. The ninth generation opens a new chapter for the legend: for the first time, the pickup will be offered as a diesel, a fully electric BEV, and a hydrogen FCEV.

The electric version combines a 59.2 kWh battery with a pair of powerful eAxle motors for a total output of 144 kW (196 hp) and a driving range of over 300 km. The battery sits beneath the frame to improve weight balance and off-road composure, while the all-wheel-drive system stays true to the Hilux’s reputation for toughness.

Toyota plans to begin sales in Asia from 2026, while Europe and Oceania are set to receive the hydrogen variant in 2028. In Japan, the Hilux will retain a diesel version tailored to local needs.

According to Toyota’s chief brand officer Simon Humphries, who spoke to 32CARS.RU, the new Hilux embodies the company’s multi‑pathway approach to electrification, designed to reflect regional specifics. The brand is prioritizing flexibility and offering solutions that suit farmers and builders as much as urban customers.

Hilux remains itself—practical, durable, and now even more adaptable. Toyota makes it clear that the road to carbon neutrality isn’t about a single formula but about giving each market and driver a meaningful choice—a pragmatic stance that feels right for a workhorse nameplate.
