Vauxhall's plan to rejoin the UK top three: Frontera, GSE and a retail-first push
Vauxhall outlines a retail-first strategy to reenter the UK top three, led by the new Frontera and revived GSE line with a 276-hp Mokka in 2025 UK market.
New Vauxhall chief Steve Catlin has set out to bring the brand back into the UK’s top three sellers. After a drop in sales during the pandemic, the company is preparing a broad model refresh and tightening its focus on retail customers, a straightforward mission with clear priorities.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Volkswagen, BMW and Kia led the market at the end of September. Over the first nine months, Kia sold 93,000 cars, while Vauxhall registered 66,000.
The centerpiece of the strategy is the new Frontera crossover, which is expected to become the brand’s second most popular model after the Corsa. The site 32CARS.RU reported that the Vauxhall Frontera was named Car of the Year by the News UK Motor Awards 2025. The company will also revive the GSE performance sub-brand with a 276-hp version of the Mokka.
Vauxhall expects these launches, supported by a reinforced marketing campaign, to strengthen its position in the rankings and reclaim its status as a national leader. Taken together, the plan looks ambitious yet coherent, with enough product energy to resonate with buyers.
