Ford Bronco to get hybrid version as part of new strategy
Ford is revising its electrification strategy, focusing on hybrids. CEO confirms Bronco SUV will soon receive a hybrid version, balancing efficiency and tradition.
Ford is actively revising its electrification strategy, placing a strong bet on hybrids. CEO Jim Farley has confirmed that the iconic Bronco SUV will soon receive a hybrid version.
According to the top executive, the entire Ford Blue lineup—which includes internal combustion engine models—will gradually be electrified. This means nearly every vehicle from the brand will feature a hybrid powertrain. The move is driven by market conditions: demand for electric vehicles has slowed, while interest in hybrids continues to grow.
For the Bronco, this update is particularly significant. The model is traditionally associated with power and off-road capability, and a hybrid system could add not only efficiency but also new features—such as powering external devices, similar to the Pro Power Onboard system.
Interestingly, against this backdrop, Jeep is moving away from hybrids in favor of EREV systems, while Nissan is preparing to bring back the Xterra with a hybrid V6 by 2028. As a result, the segment of body-on-frame SUVs is gradually becoming an arena for technological competition.
Technical details for the future Bronco remain under wraps, but Ford has already outlined three key directions: efficient hybrids, performance versions, and systems with enhanced power supply capabilities.
Ford is taking a pragmatic approach: instead of rushing into full electrification, the focus is on hybrids as an intermediate solution. For models like the Bronco, this could strike an ideal balance between tradition and technology.
