Chrysler recalls 178,246 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles for side curtain airbag issue
Chrysler recalls 178,246 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles from 2022-2026 due to side curtain airbag seam sealing defects. Free replacements address FMVSS 226 non-compliance.
Chrysler has announced two related service campaigns affecting both vehicles and replacement side curtain airbag parts. The issue involves non-compliance with FMVSS Standard No. 226, which regulates protection against occupant ejection during side impacts.
The Core Problem
The cause lies in insufficient seam sealing of the side curtain airbags. Due to a manufacturing deviation at the supplier, the airbags may not maintain required pressure upon deployment.
If pressure drops faster than specified, protection against partial or complete occupant ejection through side windows could be reduced, increasing injury risk in a crash.
Affected Vehicles and Parts
The main campaign, 26V189, covers 178,246 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles from model years 2022-2026, produced between May 2022 and August 2025. Additionally, Chrysler is recalling 105 Mopar replacement side curtain airbags (campaign 26E014) intended for service installation. These parts may have been manufactured from October 2024 through July 2025.
This campaign also expands previous recalls 25V302, 25E033, and 25V573. Vehicles previously repaired under those campaigns may require the new procedure.
How the Defect Will Be Fixed
Dealers will replace one or both side curtain airbags free of charge, depending on vehicle configuration. For uninstalled replacement parts, FCA will arrange buyback or replacement.
Dealer notifications will begin in late March to early April 2026, with owner letters scheduled for May 14-19, 2026.
This represents a significant campaign affecting nearly 180,000 vehicles. The problem stems not from electronics but from the physical seam sealing of the airbags—a critical parameter for meeting occupant ejection protection standards.
