Chinese automaker GAC has announced a technological breakthrough in electric vehicles. A new electric drive system based on amorphous alloys will debut in the mass-produced Aion N60 model.
The development was showcased at an industry conference in China focused on electric motor advancements, where the company confirmed the technology's readiness for mass production. This marks the world's first series-produced electric drive using amorphous materials. According to the manufacturer, key technological limitations have been overcome, allowing the solution to be scaled up.
A standout feature is the motor's efficiency, reaching up to 99%. This significantly reduces energy losses and boosts overall vehicle efficiency. Additionally, the system incorporates a range of improvements, including a new rotor, optimized electronics, and modern materials. As a result, power density has hit 17.29 kW/kg, with energy consumption dropping by about 4%.
Thanks to this new technology, electric vehicle range could increase by 30–50 km. This detail matters because it highlights a competitive edge in the fiercely contested EV market.
