1994 McLaren F1 chassis 009 returns to market at $20M
Magnesium Silver 1994 McLaren F1 chassis 009 returns for sale: 6.1-liter BMW V12, 386 km/h speed, 16,000 km, restored by McLaren, offered by Tom Hartley Jnr.
An ultra-rare McLaren F1 is back on the market—and, as ever, it’s a proposition for only the wealthiest collectors. The car in question is chassis no. 009, built in 1994 and finished in Magnesium Silver. It has covered just 16,000 km and is the only McLaren F1 officially sold in Australia.
Under the engine cover sits the legendary naturally aspirated 6.1-liter BMW S70/2 V12 rated at 618 hp and 479 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual. Weighing in at under 1.3 tonnes, it sprints to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and still holds the title of the fastest naturally aspirated car in the world—386 km/h.
The car’s past isn’t without drama: in the 1990s a mechanic crashed it during a test drive, after which it was restored at McLaren’s Woking factory. Today it presents in immaculate condition and is being offered by British dealer Tom Hartley Jnr.
There’s no official asking price, but specialists estimate this example at no less than $20 million. And while it carries a history, the McLaren F1’s cult status still makes it a dream for any collector.
The McLaren F1 is more than a car; it’s a symbol of an era when speed and engineering moved in lockstep. With an extra $20 million on hand, bargaining wouldn’t even be on the agenda.
