Hyundai's next-generation Elantra spotted in testing with updated design and tech

Hyundai's 2026 Elantra prototype shows updated design, new Pleos OS, and hybrid TMED-II system. Debut mid-2026, sales in 2027.

Hyundai continues testing the next-generation Elantra. A pre-production prototype at the P1 stage was spotted in South Korea, marking the transition to vehicles assembled with production components for final testing.

Photos suggest the model will feature an updated design following the Sensuous Sportiness theme. The front end becomes more angular with integrated grille and lighting, while the profile shows a pronounced C-pillar line. Rear lights are also redesigned for a more three-dimensional appearance.

The interior receives a significant refresh. The car gets the new Pleos OS based on Android and the Gleo voice assistant capable of handling complex commands. Inside, there will be a 17-inch multimedia screen and a separate 9.9-inch instrument display.

Hyundai continues its hybridization strategy: the model is being tested with the TMED-II system, which should improve efficiency and performance. Gasoline versions with 2.0 and 1.6 turbo engines are also expected.

For readers, this matters because Hyundai's 2026 lineup, including the Elantra, aims to strengthen its position amid growing competition, particularly from Chinese manufacturers. The model's debut is scheduled for mid-2026, with sales starting in 2027.
