The problem stems from a trailer control module that can lose connection with the vehicle. When this happens, it may lead to the loss of brake lights and turn signals, and even partially impair the braking system.

This malfunction reduces the vehicle's visibility to other road users and heightens the risk of accidents. Moreover, cars with this issue fail to meet U.S. safety standards.

Affected Models

The recall spans several popular Ford and Lincoln models, including the F-150, F-250, Maverick, Expedition, Ranger, E-Transit, and various Lincoln Navigator model years. In total, around 4.38 million vehicles are involved.

Most of these cars were manufactured between 2021 and 2026, making this one of the most extensive recalls in recent years by volume.

The Fix

Ford has already proposed a solution: a software update. This can be performed either at a dealership or remotely via over-the-air (OTA) updates or the FordPass app.
