Volkswagen confirms Nexperia chip deliveries have resumed
Volkswagen confirms Nexperia chip deliveries have resumed after a US–China easing of export curbs, stabilizing production in China as supply risks persist.
Volkswagen has confirmed that chip deliveries from Nexperia have resumed after a pause triggered by political frictions between the United States, the Netherlands, and China, according to Ralf Brandstätter, who leads the company’s China business, in comments to Handelsblatt.
Supply troubles began in late September, when the Dutch government took control of Nexperia, a company with Chinese ownership. China responded by temporarily blocking exports of its products from October 4, disrupting output of semiconductors widely used in cars. Even a brief halt in this segment tends to ripple through vehicle programs.
The picture brightened after the United States and China agreed to a temporary, one-year easing of export restrictions. China’s Ministry of Commerce swiftly issued short-term export licenses, which allowed initial shipments to start moving again. The one-year reprieve buys time, though it does little to erase the underlying uncertainty for automakers.
Brandstätter said Volkswagen has already received the first batches of Nexperia chips, which helped stabilize production in China. He also noted that the resilience of future supplies will depend on the state of relations between Washington and Beijing.
For now, Volkswagen’s manufacturing in China has not been affected, and the group is monitoring the situation closely to avoid fresh turbulence across its supply chain.
