Volvo EX60 electric SUV: rollout strategy, SPA3 platform, price and 2026 debut

Volvo's EX60 electric crossover on SPA3, priced near $70k, debuting January 21, 2026. Strategy, US position between EX40 and EX90, rivals BMW iX3, GLC Electric.

Volvo has laid out its rollout strategy for the new EX60 electric crossover, set to become the brand’s most attainable zero-emissions SUV. In essence, it is the battery-powered counterpart to the popular XC60, positioned to take on the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes‑Benz GLC Electric.

The company detailed a cost-optimization plan at an investor event in Stockholm. Built on the modular SPA3 platform, the EX60 is the first step toward a more efficient and profitable electrification of the lineup. Collaboration with parent company Geely—owner of Polestar, Lotus, and Lynk & Co.—plays a central role. Anchoring the model on SPA3 and tapping group synergies comes across as a pragmatic shift toward disciplined execution.

Volvo will use shared components and software to cut costs without undermining design and engineering. Chief financial officer Fredrik Hansson noted that the company aims for an operating margin of more than 8% by optimizing production and reducing development spending. If the balance between common technology and brand character holds, the EX60 could emerge as a clear statement of Volvo’s EV direction.

In the U.S., the EX60 will sit between the EX40 and EX90. The expected price is about $70,000, making it more accessible than many rivals. The debut is scheduled for January 21, 2026, with production slated to begin in the first half of the following year. The positioning hints at a play for the core of the segment rather than a niche edge.
