Ford CEO confirms manual transmission stays in Mustang lineup
Ford CEO Jim Farley says manual Mustang is crucial for driving enthusiasts, with no electric version planned. Learn about current V8 models and future hybrid possibilities.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has stated that the company does not plan to eliminate the manual transmission from the Mustang. He emphasized that this version remains a crucial part of the legendary sports car's concept, highlighting the Mustang's focus on enthusiasts and drivers who value the driving experience. Farley noted that Ford will continue to produce vehicles that are engaging for drivers, both on regular roads and off-road.
Currently, the manual transmission is only available for the Mustang GT and Dark Horse versions with a V8 engine, both equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. In contrast, the EcoBoost engine variant lost its manual option after the model's 2024 update. Against this backdrop, the Mustang stands out as one of the last in its segment, with many rear-drive and V8 competitors disappearing.
Ford Chairman Bill Ford has previously affirmed the company's commitment to preserving the Mustang for future generations. Farley confirmed that a fully electric Mustang is not under consideration, but Ford is open to a hybrid modification, as it could enhance the car's dynamics and performance.
