Tesla ends Model S and X referral discounts, plans 2026 production halt

Tesla removes Model S and Model X from U.S. referral program, reduces discounts, and sets 2026 production end to shift focus to new products like Optimus robot.

Tesla has taken another step toward phasing out its flagship Model S and Model X vehicles. The company has removed these cars from its U.S. referral program, signaling a gradual wind-down of their sales.

Previously, buyers could get a $1,000 discount on a Model S or Model X using a referral code. That option is now gone. Tesla owners who decide to purchase a new vehicle from these models will only be eligible for a reduced loyalty discount of $500.

The changes also affect other models. For instance, Cybertruck buyers no longer receive a $1,000 discount when using a referral code for the Premium AWD and Cyberbeast versions. Instead, both the buyer and the referral code owner get three months of Full Self-Driving system access.

According to the company, production of the Model S and Model X will end in the second quarter of 2026. Tesla plans to redirect the freed-up production capacity to new products, including the Optimus humanoid robot and future vehicle models.
