MG aims for 18 models in Europe to strengthen EV market position
MG, owned by SAIC, plans to expand its European model lineup to 18 vehicles in two years, focusing on EVs and crossovers to maintain its top Chinese brand status.
The MG brand, owned by Chinese conglomerate SAIC, plans to significantly expand its model lineup in Europe. According to Automotive News Europe, the company could increase the number of models to 18 within the next two years.
Currently, MG's lineup includes around seven different models, though the company sometimes counts specific versions as separate vehicles and mentions approximately ten models. Even if the final number falls slightly short of the stated 18, the manufacturer is still preparing a noticeable expansion of its range.
MG remains the most popular Chinese automotive brand in Europe and aims to maintain this position. To achieve this, the company plans to actively introduce new models to the market. Some vehicles will be based on existing SAIC developments, but unique models under the MG brand are also expected.
Alongside the lineup expansion, experts note that MG's vehicle names may become more organized. Currently, the brand uses various naming conventions: EV and Electric, numerical indexes like 3 and 4, alphanumeric combinations such as S5 and S6, as well as models with letter-based designations like ZS and HS. The lineup also includes vehicles with full names, for example Cyberster.
This active expansion is expected to allow MG to offer more showroom novelties and strengthen competition in the European electric vehicle and crossover market.
