GM recalls 2025-2026 vehicles due to missing owner's manuals
General Motors recalls 2025 and 2026 models for missing owner's manuals, affecting Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and Hummer EVs. Learn about the safety compliance issue and fix.
General Motors has announced a major recall of 2025 and 2026 model year vehicles for an unexpected reason: the cars left the factory without owner's manuals. This technically violates U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), which require owners to have access to information about safe operation and maintenance.
The recall affects dozens of models, from mass-market Chevrolet Equinox and Silverado vehicles to premium Cadillac Escalade IQ and Lyriq models, as well as Hummer EV electric pickups. The list also includes the Buick Enclave and Envision, Cadillac CT5, Vistiq, Optiq, Chevrolet Corvette, Tahoe, Traverse, GMC Sierra, Yukon, and other popular 2026 vehicles.
While the lack of a physical manual isn't a technical defect, GM's documentation stresses that without it, owners might not have quick access to safety feature information, warnings, and maintenance schedules. In practice, this could theoretically increase the risk of improper vehicle use.
Dealers are expected to fix the issue simply by mailing printed copies to owners. However, the sheer scale of the error raises questions about quality control and logistics at assembly plants, as it potentially involves hundreds of thousands of vehicles. This recall isn't critical from a mechanical standpoint, but it highlights how even a minor organizational slip-up can escalate into a major campaign.
In the age of digital cars, where manuals are available online, a paper copy remains a mandatory compliance element—and its absence has triggered an official recall.
