Stellantis recalls 375,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrids for battery fire risk
Stellantis recalls 375,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrids over battery fire risk. Owners should park outside and avoid charging until repairs.
Stellantis has announced a large recall of 375,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrids due to a potential risk of battery fires. After recording 19 fires and one injury, the company advised owners to park their vehicles outdoors and not to charge them until the issue is resolved.
The recall covers 2020–2025 Wrangler 4xe models and 2022–2026 Grand Cherokee 4xe models. About 320,000 of the affected vehicles are in the United States. Stellantis told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the defect is linked to batteries supplied by Samsung SDI.
The investigation found that damage inside battery cells can cause a short circuit and lead to a fire. Similar problems were noted in 2024, when the company recalled 154,000 hybrid Jeeps following two injury cases. Now, even vehicles that previously underwent repairs need another inspection and updates—underscoring the need for a thorough, consistent fix across the lineup.
Samsung SDI said the cause might be separator damage within the cells, which raises the risk of overheating under certain conditions. This also helps explain the conservative guidance to park outside and avoid charging until the remedy is in place.
