Slate Auto electric pickup final price announcement coming in late June
Slate Auto will announce the final price of its electric pickup truck in late June, with the base Blank Slate model targeting the mid-$20,000 range. CEO confirms supplier negotiations are concluding.
Startup Slate Auto has announced it will reveal the final price of its electric pickup truck in late June. The company confirmed that the base version, Blank Slate, still aims for a price point in the mid-$20,000 range.
According to CEO Chris Barman, negotiations with suppliers are concluding, after which the final cost will be presented. Previously, the company had mentioned a price under $20,000, factoring in a $7,500 federal subsidy that is currently unavailable.
Slate is betting on an extremely simplified configuration. The two-door electric pickup comes without additional options, allowing buyers to install accessories themselves: electric windows instead of manual ones, an audio system, and other components. Kits are also available to transform the pickup into an SUV with extra seats, a roof, and safety features.
Production of the model is planned to start in Indiana by the end of this year. The project's success will hinge on pricing, production setup, and service. With over 30 new vehicles set to launch in the EV segment by 2026, Slate's final price will be a key factor in the model's competitiveness.
