October 2025: Spain’s EV sales up 90%, BYD takes the lead

Spain’s EV market hit a record in October 2025: sales up 90% to 9,282, plug-ins reached 22.5%. BYD leads for the first time as Tesla slips on Model 3 delays.

October 2025 was a milestone for Spain’s electric-vehicle market: sales jumped 90% year over year to 9,282 units. It was the country’s third-best month on record and a high-water mark for the start of a quarter. Battery-electric cars took a 9.4% market share, while plug-ins (BEV+PHEV) reached 22.5%—momentum that’s hard to ignore.

The month’s headline was BYD taking the top spot for the first time. The Chinese brand registered 1,978 electric cars, four times more than a year earlier. Its BYD Dolphin Surf set the pace with 847 units, finishing as the best-selling EV of the month—a breakout that reshapes the pecking order, at least for now.

Following were the KIA EV3 (582 units), Renault 5 (434) and Jeep Avenger (376). Hyundai, Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW also landed in the top 10. Tesla slipped to fifth, down 27% due to Model 3 delivery delays, yet it retains a comfortable year-to-date lead with 7,739 Model 3s and 4,933 Model Ys—a reminder that logistics can sway monthly tables more than demand.

Since the start of the year, Spain has tallied 83,353 electric-car sales—an 89% rise versus 2024. The country is edging toward the historic 100,000-a-year mark, and electrification is becoming a fixed part of the national vehicle fleet. Crossing that threshold would be a clear milestone for the market.

The share of combustion-engine cars continues to contract: gasoline is down to 23% and diesel to 6.9%, while hybrids and EVs keep gaining ground. Spain is firmly joining the European ranks where the shift to electric mobility has become irreversible.
