Leaked details of the 2026 Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid
Leaked photos reveal the 2026 Audi RS 5 as a plug-in hybrid with two body styles, 2.9L engine, and aggressive design. Learn about its specs and debut.
The official debut of the 2026 Audi RS 5 is still months away, but leaked real-world photos have revealed key details. The RS 4 Avant is exiting the lineup, and the RS 5 will become the new flagship of the sporty range, offered immediately in two body styles: a liftback and an Avant. The main confirmation is the charging port on the rear flank, marking the first time the RS 5 will adopt a plug-in hybrid system.
The foundation is a 2.9-liter TFSI engine with two turbochargers, adapted for Euro 7 standards. Power figures are not yet confirmed, but a benchmark is the special-edition RS 4 "25 years" with 464 horsepower. Likely, some output from the internal combustion engine will be reduced, with the shortfall compensated by an electric motor—in the A5 e-hybrid quattro, it delivers up to 105 kW, equivalent to about 141 horsepower. In total, the RS 5 could become one of the most powerful PHEVs in its class, especially as the Mercedes C 63 moves away from its hyper-turbo four-cylinder and BMW enhances hybridization in its M models.
Externally, the RS 5 features signature oval exhaust tips, widened wheel arches, vertical cooling ducts, and a new honeycomb grille. The front bumper is more aggressive, and the air intakes are larger. Inside, the cabin is equipped with bucket seats, red mode buttons, and carbon fiber accents.
The official premiere is expected soon. The RS 5 will symbolize Audi RS's transition into the era of high-performance hybrids, while retaining its recognizable style and dynamic character.
