Tesla Cybercab production begins in April 2026, says Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirms Cybercab autonomous taxi production starts April 2026. No steering wheel or pedals, designed for robotaxi service.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again confirmed that production of the autonomous taxi, Cybercab, will begin in April 2026. This marks the third such announcement in the last six months.

Musk stated that the Cybercab will not feature a steering wheel or pedals. The vehicle is being designed from the ground up as a fully autonomous model for a robotaxi service. In December 2025, Tesla reported testing the production system, and in January and February 2026, Musk reiterated that assembly launch is scheduled for April.

However, the company's leader warned that initial production rates will be low. He explained that the Cybercab is following a classic S-curve launch trajectory: due to numerous new components and technological processes at the start, volumes will be very slow initially but then increase sharply.

The Cybercab is seen as a key element of Tesla's strategy in autonomous transportation. The company is betting on robotaxis as one of its development directions for new vehicles in 2026.

Musk has previously announced timelines for other projects, such as the Roadster and Semi, which have faced delays. Nonetheless, with the Cybercab, he has publicly designated April 2026 as the start of production on multiple occasions.
