Tesla chief Elon Musk has finally put the rumors to rest about Cybercab, the fully autonomous EV aimed at a robotaxi network. Speaking on the All-In podcast, he said the production model will arrive without a steering wheel or pedals, because a human at the controls won’t be needed.

He explained that people may think they want to drive, but in real life they rarely do; he pointed to typical Uber rides and suggested there’s never a moment when you wish you could grab the wheel. According to him, Cybercab is being designed around comfort and efficiency rather than driver involvement.

Early prototypes spotted during testing do carry a wheel and pedals, which are there for trials on public roads. But once series production kicks off in the second quarter of 2026, the car is set to operate fully autonomously. The logic is straightforward: if the cabin serves passengers first, traditional controls become redundant clutter.

Some Tesla followers have voiced doubts, noting the vehicle can still look more like a conventional car than a pure robotaxi. Musk, however, frames Cybercab as a decisive step toward a driverless world where mobility becomes a service instead of an obligation.
