Smart #6: largest model with hybrid tech in final winter tests
The Smart #6, a new electric SUV with 429 hp and 1810 km range, is in winter testing in China. Learn about its specs and premium features.
Smart is continuing its transformation from a compact urban vehicle manufacturer into a full-fledged electric car brand. The new Smart #6, the largest model in the brand's history, is undergoing final winter testing in China. Official photos show a heavily camouflaged prototype navigating snowy roads. The tests are believed to be taking place in Heilongjiang province, where temperatures often drop below minus 35 degrees Celsius.
The model is built on a joint architecture from Geely and Mercedes-Benz. In terms of dimensions, the #6 breaks far from Smart's traditional mold: it measures 4906 mm in length, 1922 mm in width, and 1508 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2926 mm. The design comes from the Mercedes-Benz studio, while the technical underpinnings feature Geely's AI Super Hybrid 2.0 system.
Its EHD powertrain combines a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine producing 120 kW with an electric motor, linked via a three-speed DHT transmission. Total output is 320 kW (429 horsepower). As a plug-in hybrid, it can travel up to 285 km on electric power under the CLTC cycle, with a combined range reaching an impressive 1810 km. Fuel consumption with a depleted battery is 3.9 liters per 100 km.
In terms of equipment, the #6 takes a step into the premium segment. The liftback features a roof-mounted lidar, an interactive light panel, flush door handles, and an aerodynamic profile. The extreme cold testing aims to validate the hybrid system's durability and thermal management efficiency.
The Smart #6 is expected to launch soon, positioning itself as a key model in expanding the brand's lineup based on Geely's solutions.
