Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra electric sedan certified in China

China's Ministry of Industry certifies the Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra electric sedan. Features include 180 kW motor, lidar, sporty design, and a 2026 release.

China's Ministry of Industry database now includes certification details for the new Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra electric sedan. This model will serve as the flagship version in the lineup, standing apart from the standard Lafa5Lafa5 Ultra measures 4490×1880×1510 mm with a wheelbase of 2735 mm.

The layout remains classic for the model—rear-wheel drive with a rear-mounted electric motor. However, power has been increased from 160 to 180 kW, which should positively impact performance. The wheel configuration stays the same: 225/45 R19 at the front and 235/45 R19 at the rear.

The key difference for the Ultra version is the inclusion of lidar, indicating expanded capabilities for driver assistance systems. For Leapmotor, this is a significant step as the brand gradually strengthens its position in the segment of affordable yet technologically advanced electric vehicles.

Externally, the Ultra version will feature exclusive sporty body kits that emphasize the model's more aggressive character. The manufacturer also promises improved interior trim materials and a refined chassis tuned for more spirited handling.

Detailed specifications, trim levels, and pricing will be announced in stages closer to the sales launch. The market release and start of deliveries for the Leapmotor Lafa5 Ultra are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. The price is expected to be higher than the standard version.

Leapmotor is consistently raising the bar: the Lafa5 Ultra demonstrates how a budget electric sedan can evolve toward "smart" technologies while remaining within the mass-market segment. If the price stays reasonable, the Ultra version could become one of the most interesting new offerings in its class.
