Updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class features animal-free interior option
Mercedes-Benz unveils an updated S-Class with a cabin free of natural leather, using recycled materials. Available in Europe, starting at 121,356 euros.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an updated base version of the S-Class featuring an interior completely free of natural leather. This refresh of the W223 generation marks the first time the model can be ordered with a fully 'animal-free' cabin, an option available in European markets, including Germany, where the base specification is the short-wheelbase S 350 d 4Matic.
The cabin replaces traditional leather with a combination of the synthetic material Artico and a fabric made from recycled polyester and flax. The seats feature light-colored piping, and the door panels are trimmed in artificial leather with diamond quilting. For buyers who prefer classic materials, a fully black leather interior remains available at no extra cost.
Even in its entry-level form, the S-Class retains its premium positioning. In Germany, pricing starts from 121,356 euros. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, digital displays—including a screen for the front passenger—and a redesigned steering wheel with physical controls instead of touch-sensitive buttons.
This specific version will not be sold in the United States, where only the long-wheelbase S-Class is offered and diesel engines are not available. The updated model is classified as a 2026 model-year vehicle, reflecting the brand's move to expand material choices without altering its overall pricing strategy.
