Spotted: 2027 Corvette Grand Sport prototypes hint at new engine and design

Spy photos show 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport prototypes in California, featuring new colors like Opulent Blue and rumored LS6 V8 engine. Learn about potential upgrades and specs.

Two Corvette C8s spotted in California could be prototypes for the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. A spy photo shared by user @njp_moto shows the cars on Angeles Crest Highway, apparently preparing for a photoshoot. The area was partially blocked by other vehicles, allowing only a brief glimpse of details.

Interest in the photo has grown due to a recent leak of the 2027 Corvette's color palette, which includes two new shades: Pitch Metallic and Opulent Blue Metallic. The latter, also known as Admiral Blue, was previously used on C4 and C7 generation Corvette Grand Sport models. The prototype's hue in the images appears to match this color.

Another notable feature is the red stripes on the body, traditionally linked to the Grand Sport trim. However, it's noted that on past generations, such stripes were typically placed on the front fenders, while on the C8, they might have been relocated due to the switch to a mid-engine layout.

There's also discussion that the Corvette Grand Sport might feature a new naturally aspirated small-block V8 engine with a 6.7-liter displacement, rumored to carry the LS6 designation. Exact power figures aren't disclosed, but this version is expected to slot above the Stingray, which has 495 horsepower from a 6.2-liter LT2. Historically, the Grand Sport has been rear-wheel drive, which could set it apart from the all-wheel-drive Corvette E-Ray.
