Mercedes-Benz unveils S-Class robotaxi with Nvidia Level 4 autonomy
Mercedes-Benz reveals a new S-Class robotaxi featuring Nvidia's Level 4 autonomy technology for Uber's premium autonomous mobility services.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new S-Class version designed specifically for robotaxi operations. Nvidia provides the Level 4 autonomy technology, delivering the complete DRIVE Hyperion architecture and the full DRIVE AV software stack. This system has been trained on DGX platforms and validated in Omniverse simulations. The vehicle will join Uber's program, offering premium autonomous mobility services.
The DRIVE Hyperion platform integrates cameras, radars, and lidars into a multi-layered sensor structure. A crucial component is the Halos system, which eliminates single points of failure through redundant computing and sensor capabilities. The autonomous driving logic itself consists of two parallel stacks: an AI-based decision-making module and a classical safety layer that monitors the vehicle's behavioral boundaries.
Nvidia explains that this configuration enables the S-Class to handle complex scenarios—from unpredictable pedestrian behavior to road debris and unusual surface geometry. The new flagship operates on the MB.OS platform, with Nvidia's integration being part of a five-year partnership aimed at adapting Mercedes' traditional safety philosophy for the era of autonomous driving.
The premiere took place on January 29, 2026, at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart during celebrations marking the brand's 140th anniversary. This model will be among the first production platforms to deploy Level 4 robotaxi architecture in the luxury segment.
