Toyota integrates Tesla NACS charging for improved EV ownership experience

Toyota confirms adopting Tesla's NACS charging standard, doubling fast-charging points for its EVs. Starting 2026, new models include NACS ports, with adapters for older vehicles.

Toyota has confirmed that adopting Tesla's NACS charging standard will mean more than just a connector change for its electric vehicles—it will significantly enhance the ownership experience. The company stated that integrating with the Supercharger network more than doubles the number of available fast-charging points, giving Toyota and Lexus BEV owners access to over 27,500 Tesla stations across the United States.

Starting in 2026, new models, including updated versions of the Toyota bZ and Lexus RZ, will come equipped with the NACS port as standard. For vehicles from 2023 to 2025, Toyota will offer proprietary CCS-to-NACS adapters that have undergone rigorous testing, including exposure to extreme temperatures, drops on ice, salty mud, cable jerks, and even being run over by a two-ton electric vehicle. This detail matters because it highlights Toyota's commitment to quality: instead of using off-the-shelf solutions, the company developed its own components with a patentable locking mechanism.

Charging and payment are now integrated into the Toyota app, allowing users to view compatible stations, start a session, and pay through the brand's interface. For 2026 models, Plug and Charge functionality will be available, with Tesla being the first network to support automatic authentication; other operators will be added later.

At the same time, Toyota maintains flexibility: through a J1772 adapter, owners can continue using familiar AC stations, which is important given the mixed charging market in the U.S. Overall, the picture is straightforward: Toyota emphasizes that this infrastructure work strengthens the position of its BEV models but does not alter the company's broader strategy—from mass-market sedans to sports cars, the lineup remains diverse.
