Omoda 7 SHS plug-in hybrid debuts in Spain with 90 km electric range

Omoda launches the 7 SHS plug-in hybrid in Spain, featuring 90 km electric range, 1,200 km total range, and a 279 hp hybrid system. Learn about its design and market potential.

Omoda is launching its new 7 SHS plug-in hybrid in Spain this February, aiming to boost the young Chinese brand's presence in Europe. Positioned between compact and midsize classes, the model features Art in Motion design, over 90 km of electric range, and a total driving range exceeding 1,200 km. This combination could give Omoda a chance to stand out against both local rivals and global competitors.

Technical Features and Market Potential

The SHS hybrid system pairs a 1.5 TGDI turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors, delivering a combined 279 horsepower and high efficiency in city driving. With an 18.4 kWh battery, it can cover more than 90 km on electric power under WLTP standards, putting it in direct competition with successful PHEV crossovers.

Fast charging support is also expected, adding convenience and bringing the hybrid closer to the capabilities of pure electric vehicles. At 4.66 meters long with a 2.72-meter wheelbase, the car creates a new intermediate segment where the blend of size and range looks particularly compelling.

Design and Equipment Details

The exterior centers on an X-shaped front design, establishing a recognizable visual identity for the brand. Signature rear lighting in a lightning-bolt shape enhances the effect, while flush door handles help reduce aerodynamic drag.

Inside, the focus is on a 15.6-inch central display with 2.5K resolution. Minimal physical buttons underscore the brand's modern philosophy, but adjusting climate controls through the lower screen section requires some getting used to. A raised center console improves ergonomics, and the space beneath it increases usable interior volume.
