Toyota Camry Hybrid beats Tesla Model 3 as Australia's top sedan

Toyota Camry Hybrid ends Tesla Model 3's three-year streak as Australia's best-selling sedan in 2025, with both models facing declining sales amid a shift to SUVs.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid has ended Tesla Model 3's three-year winning streak, reclaiming its former title as Australia's best-selling sedan. According to data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Electric Vehicle Council, Toyota sold 9,860 Camry sedans in 2025, compared to 6,617 Tesla Model 3 electric vehicles.

In practice, this means both models saw declining sales, with the Camry down 36% and the Model 3 dropping by a more significant 61%. This shift reflects a broader trend where buyers are increasingly moving from low-slung sedans to crossovers and SUVs.

Overall, the sedan segment struggled in Australia last year, with total sales falling by 41.1%. Against this backdrop, the third-placed BYD Seal experienced a 40.8% decline, while the fourth-placed BMW 3 Series saw a 24.1% drop.
