Strong demand for BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC electric SUVs in 2026

Demand for the new mid-size electric SUVs, the BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology, has exceeded expectations. Both models are set to hit the market in 2026, built on new platforms and featuring updated brand design concepts.

Due to strong demand, Mercedes-Benz is producing the electric GLC at its Bremen plant with three shifts and has added extra Saturday shifts. The company stated that order books are already stretching well into the second half of 2026.

The GLC with EQ Technology marks the first model in Mercedes' new lineup to feature the MB.OS system and a fresh design approach. Built on the MB.EA-M platform, it offers more passenger space and improved towing capacity. The launch version is priced at €71,281, delivers 360 kW (489 hp), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 210 km/h. Its claimed WLTP range is 673 km. It also includes the MBUX Hyperscreen with a 99.3 cm diagonal.

Sources indicate that the BMW iX3 is seeing strong orders from both private customers and corporate fleets. The manufacturer plans to ramp up production at its new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, and introduce an additional shift earlier than scheduled. The starting price for the iX3 is €68,900, with 345 kW (469 hp), a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds, a top speed of 210 km/h, and a range of up to 805 km.
