Experts evaluated vehicles based on a combination of price, features, practicality, fuel efficiency, and ownership costs. This year, the ranking expanded to 20 categories, up from 13 last year, as the average price of a new car in the U.S. approaches $50,000.

In the compact car segment, the Kia K4 took top honors with a starting price of $22,290. Among compact crossovers, the Hyundai Tucson won, starting at $29,450 and offering all-wheel drive. The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid led the compact hybrid category, while the Kia Sportage HEV and its PHEV version won among hybrid SUVs.

For compact electric crossovers, experts named the Chevrolet Equinox EV the best, with a range of up to 319 miles. The Nissan Kicks won in the subcompact SUV class, and the Kia Niro HEV topped the hybrid models in that category.

In the sports car segment, the Toyota GR86 was recognized for offering the best value for performance. The Honda Accord won among midsize sedans, while the Nissan Murano led the two-row SUV segment. The Kia Sorento was named the best three-row crossover, and the Kia EV9 took the top spot among electric models in that class.

Hybrid categories highlighted the Toyota Camry and Kia Sorento HEV, with the Mazda CX-90 PHEV winning among plug-in hybrids. The Ford Expedition led the large SUV segment, and the Honda Odyssey won among minivans. For midsize pickups, the Toyota Tacoma was best, while the Ford F-150 topped the full-size class.
