BMW M5 G90 gets lightweight carbon fiber kit from 3D Design

Japanese tuner 3D Design reveals an aerodynamic kit for the new BMW M5 G90, featuring dry carbon fiber parts to reduce weight and enhance styling.

Japanese tuning studio 3D Design has unveiled an aerodynamic kit for the new BMW M5 in the G90 body style. The company says pricing for the package should be announced within the next week.

The kit comprises four components made from dry carbon fiber with a 2x2 weave: a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a trunk lid spoiler. All parts except the spoiler are also compatible with the BMW M5 Touring (G99) estate.

3D Design emphasized its focus on understated styling. The studio aims to enhance the car's visual presence without compromising BMW's signature design language or premium feel.

Notably, the dry carbon fiber (prepreg) is manufactured using an autoclave process. This method yields parts that are lighter and stiffer than conventional wet-laid carbon fiber. This approach also improves surface quality and reduces component weight—an important consideration given the BMW M5 G90's curb weight of 2,445 kg.

Beyond the aero kit, 3D Design is preparing additional modifications. The showcased vehicle features new exhaust tips that can be installed without complex modifications and retain the factory muffler. Lowering springs are also in development; a prototype on test springs sits about 20 mm lower. Interior components are expected to follow, though details remain under wraps for now.
