Tesla's free Full Self-Driving transfer deadline and subscription shift
Tesla's free FSD transfer program ends March 31, 2026, with a shift to subscription-only access after February 14. Learn about the deadline and changes.
Tesla has announced the deadline for its free Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer program between vehicles. According to the company, owners can transfer their FSD access to another car at no extra cost until March 31, 2026, giving them until the end of the quarter to complete the process.
Tesla previously confirmed it will no longer offer a one-time, permanent purchase option for FSD. Instead, the company is shifting to a subscription model, which is expected to launch in mid-February. After February 14, the subscription will become the only way to access FSD, and after March 31, owners who bought the package earlier will no longer be able to transfer it for free.
The company has not officially explained why it's moving away from the one-time purchase option. Various theories are circulating about the decision, ranging from potential new subscription tiers to usage-based payment models. Currently, FSD adoption is estimated at around 12%, and increasing the number of active subscribers is a key priority for Tesla.
