Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: electric crossover for India with 543 km range
Toyota launches its first electric crossover in India, the Urban Cruiser EV. Get details on design, specs like 49-61 kWh batteries, up to 543 km range, and price starting around 19-25 lakhs.
Toyota is gearing up to launch the Urban Cruiser EV, its first electric crossover for the Indian market. Based on the Maruti e Vitara, the newcomer retains a familiar design but gains its own distinct styling.
Design and Interior: Key Differences
Externally, the Urban Cruiser EV adopts the e Vitara's styling, but features a redesigned front end with slim LED headlights and a black trim reminiscent of the Camry. The body is accentuated by wide wheel arches, a robust bumper, and aerodynamic 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the architecture is recognizable: an asymmetric dashboard, dual screens, soft-touch materials, faux leather, and ample storage. Expect a fixed glass roof, comfortable seats, and a practical trunk layout.
Technology and Features: Batteries, Power, and Safety
According to preliminary data, the model will offer batteries of 49 and 61 kWh with front-wheel drive and power outputs ranging from 144 to 174 horsepower. The range should match the e Vitara, reaching up to 543 km in the local ARAI cycle.
Equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, a media system with a 10.1-inch screen, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and advanced driving modes. Safety is bolstered by seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and stability systems.
Market Role and Expected Price
The starting price could be around 19-25 lakhs ($20,900-$27,500), positioning the Urban Cruiser EV as a competitor to the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Curvv EV. For Toyota, this move is a significant step in expanding its electric lineup in India, particularly in the fast-growing compact EV crossover segment.
