Toyota launches first hybrid Land Cruiser 300 with 457 horsepower

Toyota introduces the first hybrid Land Cruiser 300, featuring a 457 hp V6, electric-only driving up to 30 km/h, and off-road capabilities. Launching in Eastern Europe in 2026.

Toyota has introduced the first-ever hybrid powertrain for the legendary Land Cruiser 300, marking a historic shift for the model. This new variant will launch in Eastern European markets in January 2026, expanding the lineup and setting a new direction for flagship SUVs.

According to the automotive magazine Tarantas News, the setup centers on a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a starter-generator in a parallel hybrid configuration. The system delivers 457 horsepower and 790 Nm of torque, making the hybrid LC300 the most powerful version in the model's history. With a 20% increase in traction and a 40% improvement in throttle response compared to the 3.3-liter diesel, this represents a noticeable leap in performance.

The new architecture includes a motor-generator with a clutch positioned between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. This allows the SUV to drive on electric power alone at speeds up to 30 km/h, with the internal combustion engine engaging smoothly. The hybrid system is based on a nickel-metal hydride battery, complemented by a new electric power steering system for enhanced control precision.

Off-road capability remains unchanged: Toyota has retained the ability to wade through water up to 700 mm deep and conducted tests in extreme conditions worldwide. A protected battery housing eliminates risks when driving through water and mud.

The new model will be available in three trims: VX, ZX, and GR SPORT. The VX trim focuses on comfort, featuring LED lighting, a power-operated tailgate, a 12.3-inch multimedia system, and a 14-speaker JBL audio system. Inside, it offers four-zone climate control, power seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The ZX trim emphasizes off-road handling, including Multi-Terrain Select, an off-road driving assist, a panoramic view monitor, adaptive suspension, and a rear locking differential.

The sporty GR SPORT modification comes with distinctive body styling, 18-inch wheels, and the off-road e-KDSS system, which disconnects stabilizer bars for maximum suspension travel. Unique badges and design elements complete the look.
